Expertise and Experience Highlights:
MSG Jerry Arteaga enlisted in the Army the 3rd of June 1998. He completed One Station Unit Training (Infantry) at Fort Benning, Georgia and was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served in A Co 2-35 Infantry as an Infantryman and Rifle Fire Team Leader until 2001. In 2001, MSG Arteaga attended the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course and was selected to enter the Special Forces Qualification Course as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant (18E).
From 2002-2015, he has served in 3st BN, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as a Senior Communications Sergeant, Special Forces Intelligence Sergeant, Special Forces Team Sergeant, Battalion Operations NCOIC and as the Headquarters Support Company First Sergeant. While assigned to 3rd Battalion 7th SFG(A) he deployed to Afghanistan (OEF) on four combat rotations and to Iraq (OIF) for two more. He also deployed multiple times on Foreign Internal Defense missions to the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility increasing Partner Nations military capabilities. MSG Arteaga has been to Colombia (6 rotations), Chile (2 rotations), Bolivia, Honduras, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica and Japan in support of the Global War on Terrorism. His is currently assigned to the Special Warfare Education Group as a full time graduate student at the National Defense University working towards a Masters of Arts in Strategic Security Studies.
MSG Arteaga’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal w/4 Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal w/ Oak Leaf, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Metal w/ 2 Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal w/ 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Colombian LANCERO Badge, Master Parachutist Wings, HALO Wings, Air Assault wings, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Dutch HALO Wings, 13 different foreign Airborne Wings and various campaign and service awards. MSG Arteaga is also the recipient of the Saint Philip Neri award (2012) for his contributions to the Special Operations Community. Additionally, he was recognized as the 2015 enlisted member selected to be profiled by the Department of Army and Department of Defense as an emerging Hispanic leader in the Armed Services.
His military schools include the Light Infantry Course, Air Assault Course, Primary Leadership Course,
Airborne, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Survive
Evade Resist and Escape Course(SERE C), Ranger, Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course,
Advanced Special Operations Techniques Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course,
Military Freefall Basic Course, Static Line Jump Master, Advanced Survive Evade Resist and Escape Course (SERE 211), Special Forces Intelligence Course and Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance, Target Analysis, and Exploitation Techniques Course.
MSG Arteaga’s non- military training courses include the Gryphon Group Combat Driving Course, MidSouth Shooting School, Frank Garcia’s International Shooting School, NEK Attack the Network Course, Merlin Technical Surveillance Course, NEK JEDBURG Course and the Colombian LANCERO Course. He is also a fixed wing private pilot with more than two hundred flight hours.
Additionally, MSG Arteaga graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis and holds a graduate certification in Teaching and Learning, both from Norwich University. He also completed a Masters of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University. He is currently attending the Cyber Security Management Graduate Certification program at Fayetteville State University. MSG Arteaga was recently selected as one of five senior NCOs to participate in the Fiscal Year 2018 Congressional Fellowship on Capitol Hill in Washington DC where he will pursue a Masters in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.
